Foiled In The Nick Of Time: Delta Police Uncover Weapons Cache, Stop Agbor Hostel Attack

The Delta State Police Command has announced the dismantling of a suspected criminal armoury and the prevention of a planned robbery in separate operations across the state, with several locally fabricated firearms and ammunition recovered.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on 20 February 2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command revealed that operatives of the Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, uncovered a stash of weapons allegedly connected to a gang operating along the Warri–Sapele Road corridor.

The development followed the transfer of a 25-year-old suspect, Dafiaga Timothy, from Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area. According to police, he is suspected to be a member of a syndicate accused of attacking commuters and residents in the area.

Based on intelligence gathered during interrogation, officers were led at about 5:30 a.m. on 19 February to a hidden location along the Sapele–Warri Road near the Adheje Community axis.

A search of the site reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made long gun, a cut-to-size firearm, and a fabricated Beretta-style pistol loaded with five live rounds. Ten additional live cartridges and a dagger were also seized.

In a separate operation on 18 February at about 5:00 a.m., officers attached to the Area Command in Warri intercepted a blue tricycle along the Agbarho–Warri Expressway. Two occupants fled into nearby bushland, while the driver, identified as 25-year-old Aliyu Sabo, was apprehended.

Police said a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and an expended round were recovered from the tricycle, along with mobile phones and other items.

Meanwhile, in Agbor, officers from the Agbor Division responded to a distress call about a suspected invasion at Texas Lodge Hostel in the Alihame Community. The suspects reportedly fled upon sighting the patrol team, but a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge were recovered during a sweep of the premises.

The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks. He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
