El-Rufai Reveals DSS Resumes Probe Into Dadiyata Disappearance, Suspects To Be Summoned
The Department of State Services (DSS) has reopened the investigation into the 2019 disappearance of Abubakar Idris, widely known as Dadiyata, and plans to summon suspects for questioning in connection with the case.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dadiyata, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, went missing on August 1, 2019, after armed men allegedly abducted him from his Kaduna State residence. Nearly seven years later, his whereabouts remain unknown.
A security source revealed that the DSS is revisiting this case alongside other unresolved missing-person cases.
“The DSS has reopened the 2019 Kaduna disappearance case of the prominent government critic, Abubakar Idris, aka Dadiyata, as well as several other unresolved cases of missing persons,” the source told The PUNCH.
The renewed attention comes following a video interview posted by ambassador-designate Reno Omokri on his X handle, in which Kadijah, Dadiyata’s wife, shared fresh concerns over her husband’s disappearance and appealed for public assistance.
“We pray that one day, he will come back,” she said, reflecting on the long period of uncertainty. She added, “They should please do whatever they can to help us know his whereabouts, if he’s alive or not.”
Kadijah recounted witnessing her husband’s abduction from a window in their compound on August 2, 2019. She also reacted emotionally to a past social media comment allegedly made by the son of a former governor, saying, “I felt bad about it. I can’t even explain.”
Omokri, who visited the family, urged Nigerians and the Kaduna State Government to assist. “Nigeria owes a duty of care to this family for what has happened to them,” he said, appealing to Governor Uba Sani to consider measures such as relocation, educational support for the children, or employment assistance for Kadijah.
El-Rufai and Ganduje Exchange Claims
The case resurfaced after former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai denied any involvement in Dadiyata’s disappearance.
“Dadiyata was not a fierce critic of the Kaduna State government. He was a fierce critic of the Kano State government,” El-Rufai said, asserting that he only became aware of the lecturer after the abduction was reported.
“If anyone should be questioned about Dadiyata’s disappearance, it is the Kano State Government. It has nothing to do with the Kaduna State Government. We didn’t even know he existed,” he added.
In response, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje described the claims as “reckless” and “a clear attempt to shift responsibility.” “Everyone in Kaduna knew the nature of the criticism he made and who it was directed at,” Ganduje said.
Passport Seized, Sons to Be Questioned
Sources further revealed that the DSS recently seized El-Rufai’s passport at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to prevent him from traveling abroad while investigations continue.
“El-Rufai is fully aware that the DSS is investigating him and his two sons regarding Dadiyata’s kidnapping,” the source claimed. The Service is reportedly preparing to summon his sons for questioning as part of the reopened probe.
