Secretary to the State Government, Abdulqadir Muazu Meyere, said the directive was issued to ensure that individuals seeking elective offices comply with the legal requirements guiding the electoral process.

He explained that the law mandates public office holders with political ambitions to step down from their positions before the start of party primaries.

The state government therefore advised all affected officials to submit their resignation letters before the stipulated deadline to avoid breaching electoral regulations.

“Consequent upon the foregoing, I am to draw the attention of all political appointees and other government officials who desire to contest for elective positions that conduct of party primaries are expected to commence from April 23, 2026.
