Tension has engulfed the Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene, in Akwa Ibom State following the death of a 12-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 student, Ufokobong Edwin Godwin, who reportedly sustained injuries after being bullied by a senior student.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident allegedly occurred before the Easter break, when a Senior Secondary School 3 student attacked the deceased after he refused to share his provisions.

According to reports, the boy suffered a neck injury during the assault and was later taken to the hospital on Easter Sunday, where he eventually died.

A fellow student who shared the same hostel said the confrontation happened during the examination period when the senior student demanded provisions, which the younger student declined, explaining that he did not have enough to share.

The student claimed the senior boy hit the victim on the neck, leaving him unconscious. He was later taken to the hospital, regained consciousness, and was returned to school before the holidays.

However, when the school closed, the boy’s parents reportedly took him home without being informed of the alleged assault.

Another account suggested that the senior student repeatedly struck the victim on the neck until he collapsed. The student reportedly fainted multiple times before others raised the alarm.

While at home for the holiday, the boy began complaining of severe neck pain, prompting concern from his family.

According to a family source, the child repeatedly expressed discomfort, saying his neck was in pain. His parents initially treated him with pain medication, believing it was not serious.

As his condition worsened, his father rushed him to the hospital, where he later died on Easter Sunday.

Medical reports indicated that the cause of death was linked to complications from blood clots around the neck area.

The school principal, Mr. Jude Ezeogu, confirmed the incident and described it as a tragic loss.

He said the school community was in mourning and noted that a management committee would be set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The principal added that further details would be communicated after the committee’s review.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom State, Timfon John, said she would verify the incident but had yet to release an official statement.

Meanwhile, the grieving family has called on the Federal Government to investigate the incident and ensure justice is served. The father of the deceased appealed for intervention, saying he would speak further at a later time.
