Bwala disclosed this during an appearance on News Central’s programme 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, where he addressed public reactions and criticism that followed the interview.
The interview had sparked backlash online, with several commentators and opposition figures describing his performance as disappointing.
Reacting to the criticism, Bwala stated that eight days after the interview, he had to undergo throat surgery, adding that he has since recovered and is back in good health. He also took a swipe at critics on social media, particularly supporters of Peter Obi, accusing them of pushing narratives without regard for national interest.
He went on to defend his outing, describing Hasan’s style as “opposition journalism,” aimed at discrediting the government. According to him, much of the questioning focused on statements he made about President Tinubu while he was still in the opposition.
Bwala explained that although he acknowledged those past remarks, he repeatedly urged the interviewer to move on to more relevant issues, insisting that the discussion should reflect the purpose of the interview.
He added that when the line of questioning persisted, he warned Hasan he would begin to deny the claims, which he eventually did when the interviewer continued along the same path.
