The update was disclosed on April 14, 2026, by the association’s Publicity and Social Secretary, Abdulmajid Ibrahim, in a message to members.
He stated that the disbursement has already begun reaching affected doctors, with some beneficiaries receiving arrears covering between one and six months.
Several doctors have also confirmed receipt of payments, indicating that the process is ongoing across various centres.
He added that members who are yet to be paid should remain patient, as the exercise will continue until all eligible doctors are settled. However, he noted that the August component of the arrears may experience slight delays due to administrative issues, which could push payment by one to two weeks.
The CONMESS salary structure, which applies to medical and dental officers in government hospitals, has long been a point of contention between doctors and authorities, particularly over delays in implementing salary adjustments and clearing arrears.
These disputes have, in the past, triggered industrial actions by resident doctors, disrupting services in public health facilities nationwide.
Resident doctors remain a critical part of Nigeria’s tertiary healthcare system, but they continue to raise concerns over unpaid entitlements, poor working conditions, and increasing migration of medical professionals abroad in search of better opportunities.
