Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has once again drawn public attention following his recent political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

On Sunday, May 3, Obi announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a statement posted on his account.

In the statement, he described the current political environment as increasingly hostile and discouraging, noting that even within alliances, individuals may still encounter internal opposition and criticism.

He clarified that his decision was not due to personal disagreements with party leaders, including David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, but was influenced by recurring internal disputes and legal challenges within the party.

Obi’s Political Journey

Obi’s political career has seen him move across several parties over the years.

He began with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2002/2003, where he eventually became Governor of Anambra State after prolonged legal battles and political struggles.

He later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014 and served as the party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections alongside Atiku Abubakar.

In May 2022, he left the PDP shortly before its presidential primary and joined the Labour Party, under which he contested the 2023 presidential election.

He later moved to the ADC in December 2025 as part of broader opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, before announcing his exit from the party on May 3, 2026.

Reports have also suggested that Obi and other opposition figures were considering another political shift to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), amid ongoing concerns about leadership disputes and legal challenges within the ADC.

Resurfaced Video on Party Loyalty

Meanwhile, an old video of Obi has resurfaced online in which he defended his history of party changes, insisting that he has always remained loyal wherever he served.

In the video, Obi said:

“I am always a loyal member of any party. People may say I have moved from one party to another, but those close to me know the reasons. In every case, I left because I was pushed.”

He added that he prefers to walk away from conflict rather than remain in unstable political environments.

“I don’t stay where there is a problem. I would rather step aside for peace than remain in a crisis situation. If I am told I am not wanted, I will move on. That is not weakness; it is a principle,” he said.

Obi also stressed that his political choices are driven by his desire for a better Nigeria rather than personal disputes or ambition.

“My commitment is to a better Nigeria. We must work with others to achieve meaningful change,” he added.

He further explained that his movement across political parties was shaped by internal disagreements and evolving political circumstances.

Although Obi has confirmed his exit from the ADC, he has not yet announced his next political destination.
