Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has expressed doubts about Peter Obi securing strong support from Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, Datti said it is unlikely that the North would unite behind Obi, stressing that his view reflects his personal assessment. He added that he still maintains respect and cordial relationships with key political figures.

He revealed that as far back as January 31, 2024, he had advised Obi to begin early coalition-building by engaging influential northern politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Nasir El-Rufai in preparation for the 2027 race.

According to Datti, effective political planning requires long-term strategy, and any delay in building alliances years ahead of an election raises questions about readiness. He noted that his continued involvement in Obi’s political journey would depend on the presence of a clear and structured plan.

Commenting on Obi’s recent alignment with Kwankwaso, Datti acknowledged the development but questioned its potential success, saying only time would determine its outcome.

He also criticised Obi’s handling of internal issues within the Labour Party, arguing that as a former presidential candidate, he should have remained to address the party’s challenges rather than stepping away.

Datti concluded by reiterating that, in his opinion, it would be difficult for the North to rally behind Obi, while emphasizing that his remarks were not personal attacks but an honest political perspective.
