The New Nigeria Peoples Party has announced that it will select its candidates for the 2027 general elections through a consensus arrangement rather than traditional primary elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party also disclosed that all previously expelled members have been granted amnesty and are free to return.

This was made known in a statement issued in Lagos by the party’s founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Boniface Aniebonam.

He said the decision followed extensive internal consultations aimed at reducing divisive contests that often weaken the party before general elections. According to him, the new approach will prioritise candidates with broad support and electoral strength instead of those emerging through money-driven primaries.

Aniebonam added that the party is opening its doors to Nigerians who align with its vision, encouraging wider participation in its political process.

He noted that women would receive special consideration, including exemption from nomination fees apart from minimal administrative charges, as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness.

He also reaffirmed that current elected officeholders under the party would retain automatic tickets for 2027, in line with earlier resolutions from the party’s convention, stressing that this policy remains unchanged.

On reconciliation, Aniebonam said members who were previously expelled due to internal crises and legal disputes have now been pardoned. He explained that many of them acted under misinformation and conflict at the time.

Returning members, he said, must report to the current leadership under the National Working Committee led by Agbo Major and demonstrate loyalty to party rules. They will also undergo a screening process before being fully readmitted, with final approval resting on the national leadership.

He further assured members that the party’s structure remains guided by existing court rulings and internal regulations, urging them not to be concerned about delays in updates from the electoral body.

Aniebonam also advised both new and returning members to formally resign from any other political party before joining the NNPP, noting that electoral laws prohibit dual party membership.
