He restated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to accountability, professionalism, and improved public confidence through the strengthening of the CRU as an accessible channel for reporting police misconduct.
To enhance responsiveness, the IGP directed that the Complaints Response Unit remain operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing citizens to report cases such as abuse of office, extortion, human rights violations, and other forms of unprofessional conduct by police personnel.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the directive was given during an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The IGP emphasized that accountability remains a central focus of ongoing reforms within the police institution, assuring that all credible complaints from citizens will be promptly investigated and addressed.
He also urged members of the public to make responsible use of the complaint channels, noting that cooperation between citizens and the police is essential for building a more transparent and service-driven force.
The statement further noted that all reports received through the CRU would be treated with confidentiality and seriousness, while officers found culpable after investigations would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The police leadership also reiterated its commitment to strengthening public trust through transparency, responsiveness, and adherence to the rule of law.
