Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh has spoken about how his reputation as a comic performer sometimes influences the way people treat him in real-life situations, even during serious moments.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He made this known in an interview with Selah Meditate last week.
According to him, many people have become so accustomed to his on-screen comedic persona that they often respond with laughter even when he is not attempting to be funny.
He recalled a particular incident at a gathering where he was asked to lead a prayer. As soon as he began, saying “In Jesus’ name,” some members of the audience struggled to contain their laughter.
Owoh said the reaction made him uncomfortable, stressing that prayer is something he considers deeply serious and personal.
“I remember a gathering where I was asked to pray. I simply said, ‘In Jesus’ name,’ and people were trying to suppress laughter. It annoyed me because I don’t joke with my prayers,” he said.
The actor also commented on a growing trend in the film industry where producers reportedly prioritize social media popularity over acting skill when casting roles.
He argued that online fame cannot replace genuine talent, insisting that strong acting ability remains essential regardless of a person’s social media influence.
“I don’t think social media fame is replacing real talent. It can’t. There is no way social media fame can replace real talent,” he added.
