The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 2 for further proceedings in a ₦10 billion fundamental rights lawsuit filed by Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Justice Salim Ibrahim fixed the date on Thursday after counsel to the applicant, Leonard Adeh, requested an adjournment to enable the respondents file their responses to the suit.

Ike instituted the action against Olayinka and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging a violation of his privacy and personal data rights.

When the matter came up for mention, only the applicant’s legal representative was present in court.

Addressing the court, Adeh disclosed that he had been informed by the court bailiff that the respondents were served with the court processes only a day earlier.

“However, I want to bring to the notice of the court that the bailiff told me that parties were only served yesterday,” the lawyer said, while seeking clarification on the nature of service effected, particularly on the first respondent.

After examining the proof of service presented before the court, Adeh expressed satisfaction with the process.

Following the exchange, Justice Ibrahim ordered that hearing notices be served on all respondents and adjourned the matter until July 2.

The suit stems from allegations that Olayinka published Ike’s voter registration information on X without his consent.

Ike, who is said to be seeking the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections, claimed the publication revealed details of his voter registration transfer from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory.

The actor is asking the court to declare that the disclosure of his voter registration data without authorization amounted to a violation of his constitutional right to privacy and protection of personal information.

He is also seeking a declaration holding Olayinka and INEC jointly responsible for the alleged breach and demanding ₦10 billion in aggravated and general damages.

In addition, Ike wants the court to compel Olayinka to remove the disputed post from his X account and issue a written, unconditional apology over the publication.
