The development follows a directive by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordering an investigation into how the restricted footage found its way into the public domain.
The video was tendered as evidence in the trial of individuals accused of plotting to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu, a case stemming from arrests made in 2024.
During proceedings on June 23 and 24, 2026, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the restricted footage was being circulated on VeryDarkMan’s social media platforms, contrary to an earlier court order prohibiting its dissemination.
Speaking about the incident on his Instagram page, VeryDarkMan disclosed that he spent several hours at the DSS office undergoing interrogation before being released in the early hours of the following day.
“I got home around 2 a.m. after spending hours at the DSS office, where I was questioned and investigated over a video I posted four days ago,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly preparing to investigate VeryDarkMan and human rights activist Deji Adeyanju over allegations relating to terror financing, questionable funding channels, and other potential security concerns.
The planned probe follows a petition submitted by lawyer Blessing Agbomhere, who urged the anti-graft agency to scrutinize how both individuals source and utilize funds for their advocacy, media engagements, protests, legal actions, and other public activities.
According to reports, Agbomhere requested the EFCC to determine whether the financial resources supporting their operations originate from legitimate and transparent sources.
In the petition dated June 17, 2026, the lawyer also called for an examination of their compliance with tax obligations, financial reporting standards, and other regulatory requirements.
He argued that the scale and visibility of their activities warrant a thorough review to rule out possible violations of financial laws or the existence of undisclosed funding networks.
The petition further raised concerns about potential national security implications, noting that certain funding channels could be used to influence public opinion or undermine confidence in government institutions.
Agbomhere urged investigators to determine whether any local or international organizations are providing financial support for their activities.
He also requested a comprehensive review of their bank records, assets, business interests, and affiliated organizations to identify any possible instances of money laundering, unlawful fundraising, tax evasion, or related offences.
Additionally, the lawyer asked the EFCC to collaborate with other financial and security agencies in assessing whether the funds associated with their activities pose any threat to national security.
However, he emphasized that the petition should not be interpreted as a declaration of guilt against either Adeyanju or VeryDarkMan, but rather as a request for a transparent investigation to address public concerns.
According to Agbomhere, if the inquiry confirms that all funds were lawfully obtained and properly utilized, it would help strengthen public confidence and clear any doubts surrounding their activities.
