Rogba, an indigene of Esa-Oke, was reportedly killed by suspected thugs on Tuesday night, sparking tension and political reactions within the community.

The controversy intensified after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s family on Wednesday, where he reportedly alleged that the attackers were loyal to the APC. The governor was also said to have criticized the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council for the August 15 governorship election, Wole Oke, who represents the area in the House of Representatives, while urging security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Speaking at a press conference in Esa-Oke on Friday, Prof. Siji Olamiju, representing APC members in the area, condemned attempts to politicize Rogba’s death, describing them as insensitive and capable of escalating tensions.

He said the tragic incident should be treated strictly as a criminal matter rather than being used for political propaganda.

According to Olamiju, it was inappropriate for individuals to draw political conclusions before the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies had completed their investigations.

He stressed that justice could only be achieved through a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation, warning against speculation, political rhetoric, and media trials. He also urged Governor Adeleke and other public officials to allow security agencies to perform their constitutional duties without interference or premature conclusions.

Olamiju further dismissed allegations implicating Wole Oke, the APC, or any of its leaders in the killing, describing such claims as baseless and politically motivated. He maintained that no credible evidence had linked the party or its members to the crime.

He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to the rule of law, justice, and accountability, insisting that anyone found culpable after a fair and impartial investigation should face the full weight of the law, regardless of political affiliation or status.

The APC chieftain also appealed to security agencies to conduct a comprehensive, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the killing. He said the late Rogba’s memory would be better honoured by allowing truth and due process to prevail over unverified accusations.

He concluded by calling on residents of Esa-Oke and political stakeholders across Osun State to remain calm and avoid actions or comments capable of heightening tensions while investigations continue.
