Former African Action Congress (AAC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Chioma Ifemeludike, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 senatorial election, citing personal convictions and recent political developments as the basis for her decision.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The development was disclosed in a letter addressed to the party’s Acting National Chairperson and made available to journalists on Friday. Ifemeludike, who also serves as the AAC Deputy National Chairperson for the South-East, had emerged as the party’s consensus candidate during its primary election held in May.
In the letter, she informed the party’s National Working Committee of her decision to discontinue her ambition to represent Anambra Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general election. She also requested that her name be removed from all records, processes, and activities relating to the party’s senatorial ticket.
The former candidate explained that her decision followed careful reflection and was guided by her commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
According to her, recent events further reinforced her resolve to step away from the race. She specifically referenced the involvement of Doris Ogala Umezurike in issues surrounding the case of Baby Testimony and the child’s physically challenged mother, expressing concerns over the handling of the matter.
Ifemeludike stated that, in her view, the situation prolonged the suffering of the child’s mother, subjected her to public humiliation, and raised questions about whether justice was being adequately served for the child.
She noted that these concerns ultimately influenced her decision to abandon her senatorial ambition in order to focus on advocating for justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable persons.
The former AAC candidate reiterated her request for the party to completely remove her name from all documents and considerations relating to the Anambra Central senatorial candidacy.
