Akpabio made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of newly constructed access roads in Karsana, Abuja, where he addressed reactions to his recent comments on infrastructure projects being executed under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“I have stopped watching television because most of the things they attribute to me are not what I actually said,” the Senate President stated.

“You were present on that occasion, yet my comments were misrepresented. I have become accustomed to it, but what I said was specifically about developments in the Federal Capital Territory.”

Akpabio explained that his earlier remarks referred to the number of projects commissioned in the FCT by President Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He reiterated that he had not previously witnessed the scale of project commissioning currently taking place in the nation’s capital.

“I maintain what I said. I have never seen a President and an FCT Minister commissioning projects year after year, with as many as 31 projects delivered during the administration’s third anniversary,” he said.

According to Akpabio, Wike also informed him that an additional 19 major projects would be ready for inauguration before election activities begin in January next year.

“So, people should stop misquoting my statements,” he added.

The Senate President stressed that although his comments were focused on the FCT, the Tinubu administration was equally delivering major infrastructure projects across different parts of the country.

He pointed to the ongoing Badagry–Sokoto highway project, saying it would significantly improve transportation while supporting agriculture through the construction of multiple dams along the route.

Akpabio also highlighted the ongoing coastal highway project, describing it as a long-awaited development that many people in the Niger Delta had hoped to see for decades.

In addition, he commended the completion of a long-abandoned building at the headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), formerly known as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

He recalled first seeing the project as far back as 2002 during his time as a commissioner and praised the Tinubu administration for completing it to a high standard.

“I was genuinely surprised by the quality of the finished project. This administration is completing projects regardless of when they were initiated, even those abandoned for over 20 years,” he said.

Akpabio also noted that residents of satellite communities within the Federal Capital Territory were beginning to experience the benefits of ongoing infrastructure development.

Referring to the newly completed roads in Karsana, he said the area had undergone remarkable transformation.

“I used to know Karsana as a village, but today it has grown into a city. It is easy for people to sit in television studios and make comments, but the impact of governance is visible on the ground,” he said.
