The returnees were flown into the country aboard an Air Peace evacuation flight coordinated under the government’s ongoing efforts to assist Nigerians wishing to return home.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the flight carried 284 passengers, comprising 272 adults, 12 infants and two government officials.

Representatives of relevant government agencies were on hand at the airport to receive the evacuees, while documentation and reception procedures commenced immediately after their arrival.

Authorities also said support services are being provided to facilitate the returnees’ reintegration into society.

The latest evacuation follows the postponement of the flight earlier scheduled to transport stranded Nigerians from Johannesburg after a technical issue was detected on the aircraft.

According to reports, Air Peace suspended the operation after engineers discovered cracks on the aircraft’s cockpit windscreen during routine pre-flight safety inspections.

The airline delayed the flight as a precautionary measure, citing the need to guarantee the safety of both passengers and crew before resuming the evacuation mission.
