Fresh Twist In PFIPC Scandal: Former Obi Campaign Coordinator Pushes For Open Probe
A former coordinator of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, Ifeanyi Thaddeus Ezeagu, has called for an independent, transparent and thorough investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ezeagu said the incident has exposed significant gaps in Nigeria’s public administration and accountability framework, stressing that the public deserves clear answers about how an agency reportedly lacking legal backing was able to gain official recognition, secure office accommodation and receive a budget allocation before its legitimacy was questioned.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Sokoto-based businessman, who recently participated in the Imo State governorship primaries, welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s directive instructing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter within 30 days.
While commending the decision, Ezeagu insisted that the investigation must be conducted independently, transparently and without political interference to ensure public confidence in its outcome.
According to him, the inquiry should not be limited to identifying individuals directly connected to the alleged scandal but should also uncover any institutional failures, systemic weaknesses or officials who may have facilitated the situation.
“The credibility of public institutions is vital to any democratic society. Nigerians deserve the assurance that everyone is equal before the law and that anyone found culpable, regardless of position or political affiliation, will be held accountable,” he said.
Ezeagu noted that the controversy has raised important questions about compliance with due process in government appointments, budget preparation and the administration of public institutions.
He urged the authorities handling the investigation to make their findings available to the public, arguing that openness would help rebuild citizens’ trust in government.
The former campaign coordinator also described the incident as an opportunity for the Federal Government to strengthen internal oversight mechanisms and improve verification processes across ministries, departments and agencies.
He further advocated the digitisation of institutional records to minimise the risk of fraudulent appointments, the creation of unauthorised agencies and questionable budgetary allocations.
Ezeagu called on the ICPC, the National Assembly and other oversight bodies to work collaboratively to ensure a credible investigation and implement reforms that would prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to him, the fight against corruption must remain institutional and consistent, using the PFIPC controversy as an opportunity to reinforce transparency, strengthen accountability and safeguard public resources.
He added that accountable governance remains essential to restoring public confidence and attracting meaningful investment into Nigeria, urging citizens and civil society organisations to continue demanding integrity, transparency and responsibility from public officials and government institutions.
