The Dramatic Arrest Of Alleged Fake PFIPC DG Adeyemi Revealed
Fresh details have emerged on how operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) tracked and arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), after he allegedly evaded security agencies for several weeks.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to multiple security sources who spoke with The PUNCH, Adeyemi was arrested near Ilesa, Osun State, after spending about five days in the state.
The sources said operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by CSP Moses Lohor, monitored his movements before arresting him on Tuesday.
A source familiar with the operation disclosed that Adeyemi had already been placed on the IRT’s watchlist before his arrival in Osun State.
The source explained that the team responsible for the arrest had originally been deployed to the state on a separate security operation following recent incidents of violence and unrest.
“The team that arrested him was in Osun for another assignment, although Adeyemi was already on the IRT watchlist,” the source said.
“The deployment was part of the Inspector-General of Police’s response to the recent killings in the state. Riot police, tactical units and several IRT squads had been stationed across Osun over the past few weeks.
“Adeyemi, however, unknowingly walked into the security dragnet after arriving in the state around last weekend.”
According to the source, security operatives were able to establish Adeyemi’s whereabouts because his details had already been circulated among relevant tactical teams.
The source further claimed that before travelling to Osun, Adeyemi had been staying in Ibadan, Oyo State, where operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly monitored his activities without making an arrest.
“While he was in Ibadan, DSS operatives kept him under surveillance but did not arrest him. They continued monitoring him until they withdrew towards the end of last week,” the source alleged.
The source added that since the police team was already operating in Osun, officers were able to verify Adeyemi’s location after several days of surveillance before moving in to arrest him.
Security sources also disclosed that the IRT briefed the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, before carrying out the operation near Ilesa, and informed him after the suspect had been taken into custody.
According to the sources, the operation was conducted discreetly to prevent the suspect from escaping and to avoid attracting public attention.
Rather than taking Adeyemi to the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, the operatives reportedly transported him to Ibadan before transferring him to Abuja.
A source said the decision was intended to prevent supporters or curious members of the public from gathering while the suspect remained in the state.
“The arrest was carried out quietly to ensure the operation was successful,” the source said.
Adeyemi was arrested following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja after he failed to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
