The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has described the commencement of the ongoing Osun State governorship election as smooth and orderly.

In an update shared on its official X account on Saturday, the electoral body said 3,556 out of the 3,763 polling units across the state had opened by 8:30 a.m.

INEC said the figure represented 94.5 per cent of all polling units in Osun State.

The commission explained that the remaining 207 polling units, representing 5.5 per cent, experienced minor delays but had become operational by 9 a.m.

INEC also disclosed that the Registration Area Centre (RAC) activation exercise for the election was successfully completed at 6:09 p.m. on Friday.

The commission said the activation exercise recorded a 100 per cent completion rate ahead of the governorship poll.

According to INEC, both the deployment of personnel and materials and the opening of polling units were carried out peacefully and in an orderly manner.

The commission stated that the RAC activation and polling unit opening processes were conducted in a “peaceful, orderly, and timely manner.”

The election features incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, alongside the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, and candidates from several other political parties.
