They Are Not Working For You” — APC Chieftain Vatsa Warns Tinubu Ahead Of 2027

Former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, has urged President Bola Tinubu to strengthen his direct connection with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election, rather than relying heavily on governors and other political stakeholders.

Vatsa warned that the support of governors and political heavyweights may not necessarily translate into votes for the ruling party, pointing to the outcome of the recent Osun State governorship election as an example.

He made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Minna on Monday.

According to the APC chieftain, the performance of the party in Osun showed that several political leaders may have lost the confidence of the people and can no longer guarantee electoral support.

“For the number of APC governors that gathered in Osun, and for them to come back empty-handed, it is an indication that they have lost the confidence of the people,” Vatsa said.

He attributed growing public dissatisfaction to the economic hardship facing Nigerians, arguing that increased government revenue following the removal of the fuel subsidy had not translated into sufficient relief for ordinary citizens.

Vatsa said Nigerians were increasingly holding the Tinubu administration responsible for the economic challenges they face, regardless of which level of government controls the resources.

“The entire fuel subsidy money is being shared to the governors who are doing little or nothing with it, and unfortunately Nigerians are putting the blame of the current hardship on the doorstep of President Tinubu,” he stated.

He stressed that Nigerians were less interested in political endorsements and influential names and more concerned about tangible improvements in their daily lives.

According to him, citizens want access to food, employment opportunities for their children, security in their communities and visible evidence of government intervention.

“What the people want now is food on their table, jobs for their children, security in their communities, and visible impact from government in their daily lives,” Vatsa added.

The former commissioner also identified internal divisions within the APC as another factor that contributed to the party’s poor performance in Osun.

He warned that unresolved disagreements within the ruling party could become a major challenge during the 2027 general elections.

“There are so many oppositions within the party, and this will also play out in the general elections in 2027,” he said.

Vatsa further advised President Tinubu to be cautious about relying solely on ministers, lawmakers and governors, arguing that some of the political figures around him may no longer enjoy the confidence of their constituents.

“Many of the elites he is relying on, including ministers, lawmakers and governors, are not working in his best interest,” he warned.
