Nigerian Afrobeats singer and music producer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has praised youths in Osun State for their support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the recently concluded governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Speaking with journalists in Ede on Tuesday during celebrations following the victory, Davido said he could only imagine the reaction that would have followed if the election result had gone the other way.

The singer commended Osun youths for participating actively in the electoral process, saying their conduct had helped restore confidence in the democratic process and given INEC another opportunity to strengthen its credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Shout out to Osun youths. You guys did really give hope to the people in Osun; you guys gave hope to the whole Nigeria. I wonder what the people would be talking if the result were otherwise.”

Davido said the youths followed the electoral process from the polling units through the wards and local government areas to the final collation, describing their participation as commendable.

Davido Rules Out Political Ambition

The singer also dismissed speculation that his involvement in the election could signal plans to pursue a political career.

Asked about his political ambitions, Davido said:

“No, I don’t have any future political ambition.”

He instead said he remained focused on contributing to the development of Osun State through entertainment and youth engagement.

Davido currently serves as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

Singer Plans Major Osun Concert

The music star revealed plans to organise a major concert in Osun following the governor’s inauguration in December.

According to him, the event would create an opportunity for emerging artists from the state to perform alongside him.

“I definitely want to see Osun youth perform alongside me, so maybe we will do like a little competition before then to pick the artists.”

He also disclosed plans for a recreational centre in the state, saying the project could provide young people with opportunities to develop their talents.

Davido said such an initiative could attract thousands of youths every month and provide them with productive activities instead of leaving them idle on the streets.

“That kind of situation can attract thousands of youth every month, taking them off the streets. That’s one of my plans definitely.”

Davido Calls for Unity

The singer also urged residents of Osun State to embrace unity following the election and put political differences behind them.

He called on people to forgive one another in the interest of peace and the development of the state.

“We need to embrace unity as the governor said, and we must forgive one another for the interest of peace. Although that may be hard, we just need to dig deep to forgive.”
