Kwara Politics Heats Up As Senator Mustapha Declares: ‘I’ll Defeat AbdulRazaq Before 1pm

The senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has expressed confidence that he will defeat Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in the 2027 election for the Senate seat.

Mustapha recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate for the 2027 general election.

Explaining his decision to leave the ruling APC, the senator cited what he described as inadequate consultation and Governor AbdulRazaq’s handling of political interests within the party.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Mustapha was asked if he believed he could defeat the governor should AbdulRazaq contest the Kwara Central Senate seat.

The senator responded confidently, insisting that he would secure victory well before the final results were announced.

“I would have won that election 12 o’clock before 1 o’clock, In Sha Allah, in the senatorial race. I will beat the governor because it will be one election that Nigerians will be waiting to see the result,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mustapha has also claimed that former Senate President Bukola Saraki is backing President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term despite leading the PDP in Kwara State.

According to the senator, Saraki is supporting the “Rainbow Coalition,” a political alliance reportedly working toward Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Mustapha compared Saraki’s position to that of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who remains a PDP member while serving in the Tinubu administration.
