APC Crisis? Ojudu Blasts Tinubu Campaign Council List, Raises Fresh Concerns
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babafemi Ojudu, has expressed reservations about the composition of the party’s 108-member Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
The APC unveiled the council on Saturday as it commenced preparations for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The composition of the council has, however, generated reactions, with questions emerging over the inclusion and backgrounds of some of its members.
Reacting to the list in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, Ojudu questioned the suitability of some of those appointed, particularly in light of their public records.
The APC chieftain observed that the council brought together individuals with markedly different backgrounds and reputations, including some he described as former “sinners.”
According to him, the council comprises “saints and former sinners, the tried and the tired, reformers and those still awaiting reform.”
Ojudu noted that while some of the names could strengthen public confidence in the campaign, others might generate concerns among Nigerians.
He remarked that some individuals on the list inspire confidence, while the presence of others could make Nigerians wary about their finances.
He urged the Tinubu campaign to consider the public perception that could result from its choice of campaigners.
Ojudu argued that a campaign seeking the confidence and support of Nigerians should avoid creating the impression that controversial political figures were being given shelter simply because they possess political influence, financial resources or the ability to mobilise large crowds.
He stressed that political influence and mobilisation capacity should not be the only considerations when selecting individuals to represent a campaign seeking the trust of the Nigerian people.
