Trump Alarms Republicans With Impeachment Warning: ‘I Am Going To Be Impeached
US President Donald Trump has warned that he could face another impeachment attempt if Republicans lose control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
Trump, the only US president to have been impeached twice, was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions. The 80-year-old Republican has now raised concerns about the possibility of another impeachment as he urges supporters to help his party retain control of Congress.
Speaking at a rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Trump predicted that Democrats would move to impeach him if they gained control of Congress.
“I’m going to be impeached. They’re going to impeach me. They have no idea why,” Trump said.
He also warned that a Democratic takeover of Congress could jeopardise key policies of his administration, including tax cuts and immigration measures.
Trump told supporters that they risked “losing everything” if Democrats won control of Congress.
There are growing expectations that Democrats could make gains in the House of Representatives during the November elections, while the race for control of the Senate is considered more competitive.
Trump was campaigning in South Carolina for Darline Graham, who was appointed to the Senate in July following the death of her brother, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
The president warned that a Democratic-controlled Congress could reverse policies pursued by his administration.
“If we lose, you’re going to lose your border, you’re going to lose your tax cuts, you’re going to lose everything that we’ve done,” Trump told the crowd.
He further claimed that taxes would rise, wages would fall and companies could leave the United States if Democrats took control of Congress.
Trump urged his supporters to approach the midterm elections as though he himself were on the ballot, stressing that the outcome would have significant implications for his administration.
“What I really want you to do is pretend, please, that I’m on the ballot. Just come and vote,” he said.
