Tinubu Brought Nigeria Out Of The Woods’ — APC’s Morka Hails President, Dismisses Buhari
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has declared that Nigeria has “come out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level under President Bola Tinubu.
Morka also claimed that Tinubu has performed better during his first term than every previous democratically elected president in the country.
The APC spokesman made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television while defending the economic policies and performance of the Tinubu administration.
According to Morka, available economic indicators demonstrate that the country has made progress despite the difficult economic conditions inherited by the present administration.
He argued that Tinubu took over an economy that was already in serious trouble and said the administration’s performance should be assessed against the situation it inherited.
Morka further claimed that Tinubu had outperformed former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari when their first terms were compared.
He attributed the economic difficulties inherited by Tinubu to what he described as years of poor governance, particularly during the 16-year period when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) controlled the Federal Government.
However, Morka offered a different assessment of Buhari’s administration, describing the former president as a “stopgap” who, in his view, prevented Nigeria from deteriorating further before Tinubu assumed office.
He argued that Buhari’s administration essentially stabilised the country following what he described as the PDP’s prolonged period of maladministration and handed over to Tinubu.
Morka also defended some of Tinubu’s major economic reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy and the changes to the foreign exchange system.
The policies have generated significant debate and hardship for many Nigerians, but Morka maintained that they were necessary to reposition the economy.
He said the reforms were gradually producing results at the macroeconomic level and claimed that some Nigerians who initially opposed the policies were beginning to recognise their impact.
Morka therefore maintained that the Tinubu administration had made significant progress in addressing the economic challenges it inherited and putting Nigeria on a more stable path.
