BREAKING: Tension Grips Ondo Assembly As Thugs Storm Complex Amid Speaker Impeachment Crisis

The ongoing impeachment crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly took a dramatic turn on Thursday morning after suspected thugs reportedly stormed the legislative complex.

The suspected hoodlums were said to have arrived from Ondo town, which is the constituency of the embattled Speaker, Hon. Olamide Oladiji.

Some Assembly staff members who spoke with Daily Trust alleged that the men moved from one office to another, heightening tension among lawmakers and workers within the complex.

The situation was eventually brought under control following the intervention of Hon. Olajide Oguntodu, other members of the Assembly and security personnel.

The combined efforts reportedly led to the removal of the suspected thugs from the premises, allowing normal activities to resume within the legislative complex.

The incident occurred amid the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Oladiji, who has been accused by some lawmakers of financial misconduct and abuse of office.

One of the allegations centres on an alleged ₦44 million transaction connected to the reordering of the 2026 budget of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

The Speaker has, however, denied the allegations, insisting that the impeachment attempt is politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intervened in the unfolding crisis involving the state legislature.

Party leaders and lawmakers involved in the dispute reportedly met on Friday as part of efforts to resolve the disagreement and prevent further escalation.

During the meeting, APC leaders were said to have appealed to all parties to embrace peace and maintain the status quo while consultations and efforts to resolve the matter continue.
