Panic In Ilorin As Two-Storey Building Suddenly Collapses, Three Rescued

At least three people have been rescued after a two-storey building collapsed in the Masalasi-Gogoro area of Popo-Giwa Community, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with the building reportedly collapsing at about 5:00 a.m. and leaving debris scattered around the area.

According to Bush Radio Academy, emergency responders were quickly deployed to the scene following the incident and began searching through the rubble for possible survivors.

Three people have so far been brought out alive from the collapsed structure, while rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to determine whether others may still be trapped beneath the debris.

The incident has caused concern among residents of the community, with emergency personnel continuing efforts at the scene.

Meanwhile, another incident has caused significant losses for traders at the popular Mandate Market in Ilorin, where a fire destroyed at least 24 shops in the early hours of Tuesday.

The blaze reportedly caused widespread panic among traders and residents as efforts were made to contain the fire before firefighters arrived at the market.

Several millions of naira worth of goods were reportedly destroyed in the incident. The affected shops contained various commodities, including rice, beans, vegetable oil, drinks, food ingredients, drugs, electronic gadgets and other merchandise.

Speaking on the incident, the Babalola of Mandate Market, Alhaji Murtala Tambaruku, said the affected traders had been left devastated by the scale of the losses.

The cause of the building collapse and the market fire had not been established in the available report, while further details were expected as authorities continued their assessments.
