Kamara Blasts Clubs Over Unfair Treatment Of African Players After Sarr, Camara Drama

Diomansy Kamara, the agent representing Senegalese footballers Ismaïla Sarr and Lamine Camara, has criticised the way some football clubs handle the careers of African players, arguing that their voices and personal ambitions should have greater consideration in transfer decisions.

Kamara made the comments on September 2 following a dramatic transfer deadline day involving his two clients. Crystal Palace reportedly blocked Sarr’s proposed move to Liverpool, while Lamine Camara’s reported £47 million transfer from AS Monaco to Chelsea also collapsed.

Reacting to the developments, the former Senegal international said the situations involving both players should prompt a wider discussion about the treatment of African footballers in the transfer market.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Kamara argued that African players are sometimes treated more like commodities than individuals with personal ambitions and career plans. He stressed that their work, careers, aspirations and opinions deserve to be respected when decisions about their futures are being made.

Kamara maintained that transfers should not be reduced to negotiations between clubs over financial figures, insisting that players themselves should have a meaningful voice in determining where their careers go.

He acknowledged that clubs having significant influence over transfers remains a reality of professional football but questioned whether enough consideration is given to the wishes of the players involved.

According to Kamara, every transfer represents more than a financial agreement, as it involves an individual, a career, personal dreams and important life decisions.

He therefore called for greater respect for African players and urged clubs and other stakeholders to ensure that footballers are properly heard before decisions affecting their futures are concluded.

Kamara’s comments came after the contrasting transfer situations involving Sarr and Camara, with neither player securing the proposed move before the deadline despite reported interest from Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
