Police Arrest Suspects Linked To Deadly Plateau Attacks

Security agencies in Plateau State have arrested some suspects allegedly linked to recent deadly attacks in parts of the state, Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan has disclosed.

Faniyan made this known on Wednesday after a meeting of the Plateau State Security Council chaired by Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the meeting was convened amid concerns over recent security breaches in some communities, with the state government directing security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents and prevent further attacks.

The police commissioner said investigations into the incidents were ongoing, noting that security agencies were working jointly at both the state and national levels to identify and apprehend other suspects connected to the attacks.

Faniyan also disclosed that technological tools were being deployed to analyse intelligence and assist investigators in tracking individuals suspected of involvement in the attacks.

“We have some arrests; investigation is ongoing. We are not investigating in isolation. We are collaborating with all the other agencies up to the national level,” he said.

The commissioner explained that the security council meeting was part of the governor’s regular assessment of the security situation across Plateau State.

According to Faniyan, Governor Mutfwang, as the state’s Chief Security Officer, was concerned about the recent incidents and had directed security agencies to take stronger measures to prevent a recurrence.

He described the recent incident in Mangu as particularly unfortunate, noting that security personnel had been deployed ahead of the attack but the incident still occurred.

“The Mangu case was very unfortunate. We prepared and deployed, but somehow, such incidents still occurred,” Faniyan said, adding that the development was one of the reasons the governor convened the security meeting.

The meeting also focused on emerging security threats, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations and stronger collaboration among the various security agencies.

Faniyan assured residents that security agencies had received clear directives to intensify operations against criminal elements and prevent further attacks across the state.

He, however, urged residents to support security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious individuals, movements and activities in their communities.

The commissioner stressed that timely and credible information from members of the public would enhance the ability of security agencies to detect threats early and respond effectively.

He added that the overall objective of the security council meeting was to strengthen intelligence-led operations and ensure potential threats were identified and addressed before escalating into major incidents.

Faniyan further noted that maintaining peace and security remained crucial to the development of Plateau State, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, trade and investment.
