Osun APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged PDP Plot To Take Over LG Councils

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has alerted security agencies over an alleged plan by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take over local government secretariats across the state.

The APC, through its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, called on the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to prevent any action that could lead to violence or a breakdown of law and order.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the party claimed it had received information that purported PDP local government chairmen and councillors were planning to move into all 30 council secretariats and the Area Office on Thursday.

The APC alleged that the planned action could involve the deployment of political thugs allegedly brought in from within and outside Osun State.

The party linked the reported development to the prolonged legal dispute over the leadership of the state’s local government councils, insisting that the matter remains before the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State.

The APC argued that any attempt to take over the council secretariats while the legal process is ongoing would amount to a violation of the law.

The party also alleged that some officials of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) were prepared to support the purported move, accusing them of maintaining close ties with the state government.

The APC further referenced a Supreme Court judgment concerning the disputed council leadership and claimed that the affected officials had previously been described as persons not recognised by law.

The party therefore urged the security agencies to remain vigilant and take preventive measures against any attempt to forcefully occupy the council secretariats.

It warned that allowing alleged political thugs to take control of public facilities over an issue still before the courts could threaten peace and security across the state.

“There is no tact and diplomacy in a set of hoodlums teaming up to promote disruption of public peace in the state on a matter that is still very much alive in the Court of Appeal,” the party stated.

The APC also recalled the killing of one of its reinstated local government chairmen, Remi Abass of Irewole Local Government Area, alleging that suspected PDP supporters were responsible for the incident.

According to the party, individuals accused in connection with the killing are currently facing trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The APC maintained that the dispute over the local government leadership remains before the Court of Appeal in Akure and called on all parties to await the outcome of the judicial process.

It further urged security agencies to closely monitor developments around the council areas and respond swiftly to any attempt to breach public order.

As of the time of filing the report, neither the Osun State Government nor the state chapter of the PDP had publicly responded to the allegations made by the APC.
