Osimhen Scores Before Injury As Galatasaray Edge Basaksehir In Five-Goal Thriller

Published

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored for Galatasaray before being forced off with an apparent injury as the Turkish champions secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 16th minute after finishing off a well-constructed Galatasaray attack, taking his tally to six goals for the season and giving his side an early advantage.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Nigerian forward’s impressive outing was cut short in the second half after he appeared to suffer an injury. Osimhen managed to continue for another 17 minutes before being substituted, with Barış Alper Yılmaz coming on in his place.

Basaksehir eventually fought their way back into the contest in the 66th minute after being awarded a penalty. Eldor Shomurodov calmly converted the spot-kick to level the score and put pressure on the visitors.

Galatasaray responded just five minutes later, with Lucas Torreira completing a well-executed team move in the 71st minute to restore the champions’ lead.

Basaksehir refused to surrender and were rewarded when Galatasaray defender Davinson Sánchez inadvertently put the ball into his own net, bringing the hosts level for a second time.

With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, Galatasaray produced a decisive moment deep into stoppage time. Gabriel Sara stepped up to take a free-kick in the 90th minute and delivered a superb effort into the net to give the visitors a dramatic 3-2 advantage.

Basaksehir could not find another response before the final whistle, allowing Galatasaray to claim another valuable victory and continue their strong start to the campaign.

However, despite the crucial three points, Osimhen’s injury will be a major concern for the Turkish champions. The striker had already made a significant impact by scoring before his early departure, and Galatasaray will now await further assessment to determine the severity of the injury and whether it could affect his availability for their upcoming fixtures.
