Davido Beats Burna Boy, Asake, Omah Lay To Win Major AFRIMMA 2026 Award
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has added another major honour to his impressive career after his latest album, ‘5IVE’, won Album of the Year at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the award was announced on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, through AFRIMMA’s official social media platform, following the awards and music festival held on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas.
Davido entered the ceremony as the most nominated artiste of the year, securing five nominations across several major categories.
His album ‘5IVE’ emerged as the winner of the highly competitive Album of the Year category, beating projects from some of Africa’s biggest music stars, including Burna Boy’s ‘No Sign of Weakness’, Asake’s ‘M$NEY’, Omah Lay’s ‘Clarity of Mind’ and Black Sherif’s ‘Top of The Morning Era’.
Other nominees in the category included Tyla with ‘A-Pop’, Lloyiso’s ‘Never Thought I Could’, Leigh-Anne’s ‘My Ego Told Me To’ and Himra’s ‘SORRY I’M BAD’.
Beyond his Album of the Year nomination, Davido was also in contention for Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa and the Crossing Boundaries With Music Award, further highlighting his strong presence at this year’s ceremony.
The 2026 AFRIMMA awards brought together prominent African artistes and talents from different parts of the continent and the diaspora, reflecting the growing global influence of African music.
Davido’s victory with ‘5IVE’ adds another significant milestone to his decorated career and further reinforces his standing as one of the leading Nigerian artistes on the international music scene.
