Nigerian comedian and businessman MC Monica has raised the alarm after allegedly losing almost ₦2 million from his bank account following a fraudulent message concerning a supposed road safety violation.
According to Bush Radio Academy, MC Monica revealed the incident in a video shared on his Instagram page, explaining that he received a message informing him of an alleged road safety fine and proceeded to click on a link contained in the message.
The comedian said he subsequently made a payment of ₦5,000 through the link, believing it was connected to the purported fine. However, he claimed that when he woke up the following morning, he discovered that nearly ₦2 million had been taken from his bank account.
MC Monica expressed uncertainty over who should be held responsible for the incident, questioning whether the issue was connected to his service provider or the road safety authorities.
He further disclosed that he contacted his account officer after discovering the missing funds, but was allegedly told that nothing could be done about the situation.
The comedian recounted that he had received the message about the supposed road safety violation before clicking the provided link and paying the ₦5,000 fine. He said the situation became alarming when he discovered the substantial deduction from his account the following morning.
The incident has generated concern, particularly over the dangers of interacting with unsolicited messages and making payments through links without first confirming their authenticity. MC Monica’s experience serves as a reminder for members of the public to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of payment requests before providing financial information or transferring money.
