Orban On Fire! Nigerian Stars Shine Abroad As Super Eagles Forward Hits Seven Goals

Nigerian footballers delivered impressive performances for their respective clubs across Europe during the weekend, with Gift Orban and Ibrahim Olawoyin among the standout performers after finding the net for their Turkish clubs.

Orban continued his remarkable scoring form for Amedspor, scoring one goal and providing an assist in the club’s 3-2 victory over Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig. The performance came just a week after the Nigerian forward scored a hat-trick, further underlining his strong start to the campaign.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Orban has now registered seven goals and two assists in six league appearances this season. His latest goal also moved him level with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as one of the leading scorers in the Turkish top flight.

Olawoyin also got on the scoresheet for Rizespor in their 2-2 away draw against Goztepe. The goal was his first of the season and his first for the club since December 2025, when he scored during Rizespor’s 6-1 Turkish Cup victory over Pendikspor.

The former Enugu Rangers midfielder has continued to establish himself at Rizespor since joining the club in January 2023 and has now recorded 17 goals in more than 100 appearances for the Turkish side.

In England, Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey played a key role in Fulham’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Craven Cottage. Bassey won a second ball shortly after the hour mark, advanced into the attacking area and forced United goalkeeper Senne Lammens into a save. Lisandro Martinez followed up on the rebound to give Fulham the lead.

Manchester United eventually rescued a point when Matheus Cunha equalised in the 89th minute. Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi started the game for Fulham and played for 71 minutes, making his fifth Premier League appearance of the season.

In South Africa, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali helped Chippa United secure their first victory of the campaign. The Nigerian goalkeeper kept his third clean sheet of the season and was required to make one save during the encounter.

In Spain, Ademola Lookman came off the bench in Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Madrid derby. The Nigerian forward entered the game in the 67th minute, replacing Alex Baena, as Atletico moved above their city rivals in the LaLiga standings.

Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandes also completed another 90 minutes as the Scottish club secured a second consecutive victory over Celtic within a week. His contribution helped Rangers close the gap on Celtic to two points.

Elsewhere, Samuel Chukwueze featured for AC Milan against Lecce, while Rafiu Durosinmi saw his scoring run come to an end as Genk suffered a 3-0 defeat to Club Brugge.

Salim Fago had a late goal ruled out for offside during Plzen’s 2-1 defeat, while Cyriel Dessers played 25 minutes in Panathinaikos’ 1-0 victory away at Kalamata.

Wilfred Ndidi was an unused substitute for Besiktas in their defeat to Amedspor, while Victor Boniface remained on the bench as Bayer Leverkusen defeated RB Leipzig 2-0.

In women’s football, Chiamaka Nnadozie featured for Brighton Women in their 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, while Bruno Onyemaechi was not involved in Olympiacos’ 1-0 victory over Levadiakos.
