Obasanjo Reveals Why He Returned To School At 77, Says Education Has No Age Limit

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed why he decided to return to the classroom at the age of 77, saying his decision was driven by a desire to continue learning and deepen his understanding of Christian Theology.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the 89-year-old former Nigerian leader pursued further education at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where he studied Christian Theology and obtained a postgraduate diploma in the field in 2009 before returning in 2014 to begin a master’s degree.

Speaking during an interview with content creator Isbae U, Obasanjo explained that his decision to resume his studies later in life was not solely motivated by the desire to earn another academic qualification. He said he also wanted to demonstrate that there should be no age limit to acquiring knowledge.

The former president added that studying Christian Theology gave him an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of God and strengthen his ability to worship and serve Him.

Obasanjo said, “I went back to school at 77 years old to study Christian Theology, to show by example that there’s no age limit to education. I also wanted to learn more about God so I could worship Him better, and I enjoyed it.”

His decision to pursue further education at an advanced age highlights his longstanding emphasis on continuous learning and personal development, while also reflecting his interest in deepening his religious knowledge.
