Lagos APC Expels Obasa Allies Egunjobi, Yusuf Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf over allegations of anti-party activities and disloyalty following their move to the Allied Peoples Movement.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC’s primaries for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively during the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process but failed to secure the party’s tickets.

The party said the two politicians subsequently obtained tickets from the APM to contest the same constituencies, an action it described as a breach of the obligations expected of APC members and an act of anti-party activity.

Ojelabi said members who lose internal party contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue available channels for redress rather than seek alternative political platforms within the same electoral cycle. He maintained that the APC had therefore invoked Article 9(5)(II) of its 2022 amended constitution in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.

The Lagos APC also rejected the reported resignations of Egunjobi and Yusuf, describing them as an attempt to avoid disciplinary consequences. The party subsequently declared that the duo were no longer members of the APC and had no authority to speak for, represent or negotiate on behalf of the party.

However, Egunjobi and Yusuf have disputed the timing and basis of the expulsion. In a joint response, they said they resigned from the APC in July 2026, weeks before the party announced their expulsion on September 23. They argued that their departure was already communicated and that their subsequent move to the APM followed grievances over the conduct and outcome of the APC primaries.

The duo also denied that their decision to leave the APC was influenced by Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, despite reports identifying them as political allies of the Speaker. They said their decision to join the APM was made independently after what they described as dissatisfaction with the handling of the disputed primaries.

Egunjobi and Yusuf had secured APM tickets for Agege Constituencies I and II after leaving the APC, following their unsuccessful bids for the APC nominations. They have maintained that they pursued internal avenues to challenge the outcome of the primaries before deciding to leave the party.

The Lagos APC, however, maintained that its disciplinary action was necessary to enforce party rules and preserve internal discipline ahead of the forthcoming elections. The party urged members, supporters and the public to recognise the changed status of Egunjobi and Yusuf and not treat either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the APC.

The development adds another layer to the political contest surrounding the Agege constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Egunjobi and Yusuf now seeking election under the APM while the APC has fielded its own candidates for the two seats.
