Political Realignment In Zamfara? Matawalle Supports Eight Suspended Lawmakers With Vehicles

Published

Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle has donated vehicles to eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly as political efforts to strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections continue.

The vehicles were presented by Yazid Danfulani, Managing Director of the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation, who represented the minister at the presentation.

The donation reportedly aims to assist the lawmakers in moving around their constituencies and mobilising support, while also promoting unity among APC members in Zamfara State.

Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara, is said to be supporting ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members following months of political disagreements in the state. The development also comes amid reported calls by President Bola Tinubu for the lawmakers to return to Zamfara and help unite the party.

Speaking during the presentation, Danfulani described the gesture as part of Matawalle’s efforts to foster cooperation and understanding within the APC. He said the minister was committed to bringing party stakeholders together and strengthening the party ahead of the next general elections.

Aliyu Ango Kagara, who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers, thanked Matawalle for the support and pledged that he and his colleagues would work towards securing victory for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

However, the donation comes amid uncertainty over the lawmakers’ political affiliation. Days earlier, their spokesman, Ibrahim Bakura, maintained that the group had not returned to the APC despite meeting President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The latest development has therefore drawn attention to the ongoing political realignments and reconciliation efforts within Zamfara’s APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the donation represents a fresh development in attempts to consolidate party support in Zamfara, although the lawmakers’ stated position on their return to the APC remains an important part of the unfolding political situation.
