Alex Otti Reveals What He Told Peter Obi Before Leaving Labour Party
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has revealed that he told Peter Obi he intended to remain in the Labour Party when the former Anambra State governor consulted him before leaving the party.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Otti made the disclosure during an interview with Arise News anchor Ojy Okpe, where he discussed his decision to remain in the Labour Party despite Obi’s departure.
Otti said Obi met with him for advice before making his decision to leave the party, adding that he informed Obi that he would stay behind and continue working within the Labour Party. He also said he had anticipated some of the developments that followed Obi’s exit, including his initial political destination and subsequent departure from there.
The Abia governor, however, said he did not consider himself in a position to determine where Obi should go politically, noting that Obi was a senior political figure who could have had information or perspectives that he did not possess.
Otti also addressed Obi’s position that the problems within the Labour Party would not have been resolved even if he had remained in the party. According to the governor, efforts to resolve the party’s internal challenges were already underway at the time.
He maintained that while he believed the resolution process was progressing, it remained a matter of debate whether Obi’s continued presence in the party would have changed the outcome.
Otti has previously said he chose to remain in the Labour Party after Obi left, explaining that he wanted to contribute to resolving the party’s internal challenges. The Labour Party subsequently recognised him as its national leader.
