Coaches Speak Out! Ogunmodede, Amapakabo, Dogo React To NPFL Matchday 6 Battles

Kano Pillars technical adviser Daniel Ogunmodede has attributed his team’s failure to secure victory over Enyimba to unfavourable weather conditions during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 6 encounter on Sunday.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Kano Pillars were held to a goalless draw by Enyimba at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano after failing to convert several opportunities, particularly during the first half.

Ogunmodede said the difficult weather conditions affected his players after the interval, making it difficult for them to maintain the intensity and quality they displayed before halftime.

He described the result as unfortunate, noting that his team had created enough opportunities to take control of the game but were unable to find the back of the net.

“We were extremely unlucky, we only played half of the game. The weather condition in the second half wasn’t favourable,” Ogunmodede said.

He added that the second half became tense as his players struggled to impose themselves on the game, while praising them for their resilience against an Enyimba side that had gone five matches without a victory.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors technical adviser Imama Amapakabo credited his tactical approach for his team’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Bendel Insurance.

Chukwuemeka Obioma scored twice, while Etta Ikoi also found the net as Abia Warriors secured all three points in convincing fashion.

Amapakabo explained that his team benefited from Bendel Insurance’s decision to adopt a formation different from the 4-3-3 system they had expected before the encounter.

According to him, the change allowed Abia Warriors to congest the midfield and create several scoring opportunities, although he admitted that his players could have scored even more goals.

The coach also explained that Abia Warriors’ slow start to the season was partly caused by a major overhaul of the squad during the off-season.

Amapakabo revealed that the club lost about 18 players and had to begin another rebuilding process, with new recruits gradually adapting to the team’s style and philosophy.

Elsewhere, Niger Tornadoes technical adviser Kabiru Dogo blamed a lapse in concentration for his team’s 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium.

Harrison Ebah scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute with a powerful long-range effort from about 35 yards, leaving Niger Tornadoes goalkeeper Jerry Isaac with little chance of making a save.

Dogo congratulated Nasarawa United for the victory while acknowledging that his team’s momentary loss of concentration proved costly.

The result lifted Nasarawa United to 13th position on the NPFL table with seven points, while Niger Tornadoes slipped to 17th.

Other Matchday 6 results saw Sporting Lagos play out a 1-1 draw with Barau, while Warri Wolves defeated Shooting Stars 1-0. Kun Khalifat FC secured a 1-0 victory over Kwara United, Ikorodu City defeated Enugu Rangers 2-0, Katsina United beat Doma United 2-1, and Plateau United recorded a 2-0 win over Inter Lagos.
