Osimhen Sends Strong Warning To Galatasaray Ahead Of Barcelona Champions League Showdown
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has cautioned his Galatasaray teammates against becoming overly excited about facing Barcelona, warning that the Spanish giants possess enough quality to make their upcoming UEFA Champions League encounter a difficult contest.
The Nigerian international acknowledged the prestige of playing against Barcelona but stressed that Galatasaray must approach the match with seriousness and proper preparation rather than allowing the occasion to distract them.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Osimhen described Barcelona as a formidable opponent with talented players capable of making the difference in a high-profile European fixture.
“Barcelona is a very big team. You shouldn’t be happy about playing against them, because they have very quality players. It will help us both as a team and individually. I’m happy for matches like this. It will be a great match,” the striker said, according to reports.
Osimhen made the remarks after returning from a groin injury during Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Kasımpaşa in the Turkish Super Lig. The forward came on as a substitute and provided the assist for Mario Lemina’s 96th-minute goal to seal the win at RAMS Park.
Galatasaray had taken the lead through Abdülkerim Bardakcı in the first half before Jesurun Rak-Sakyi equalised for Kasımpaşa in the 68th minute. Barış Alper Yılmaz restored the hosts’ advantage in the 90th minute, while Lemina added the decisive fourth goal in stoppage time.
The match also saw Galatasaray reduced to 10 men after Lucas Torreira was sent off in the 65th minute, making the victory particularly significant for the Turkish champions.
Osimhen also expressed his enthusiasm about experiencing another Champions League night at RAMS Park, where he has featured in several European matches since joining the club.
The striker has previous experience against Barcelona, having scored for Napoli in a 1-1 draw during the first leg of their 2024 Champions League round-of-16 encounter. Napoli, however, lost the return leg 3-1 and were eliminated from the competition.
Galatasaray will enter the upcoming fixture seeking to recover from a 3-1 defeat to Sporting CP in their opening Champions League match. Barcelona, meanwhile, made a strong start to their campaign with a commanding 5-1 victory over Feyenoord.
The Turkish side will also have history to contend with, having recorded just one victory, two draws and five defeats in eight previous Champions League meetings with Barcelona.
With both teams looking to strengthen their position in the competition, Osimhen’s warning highlights the challenge facing Galatasaray as they prepare to take on one of Europe’s most prominent clubs.
