We Signed Him To Score Goals — Bursaspor Boss Hails Iheanacho’s Stunning Form
Bursaspor head coach Mustafa Er has praised Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho for his impressive goalscoring form, saying the Turkish club is receiving the contribution it expected after working hard to secure his signature.
Er revealed that Bursaspor faced competition from several clubs interested in signing the 29-year-old forward but eventually completed the deal with the support of the club’s management.
Speaking to reporters at the Özlüce İbrahim Yazıcı Facilities, the coach expressed appreciation to the club’s hierarchy for helping bring Iheanacho to the team, stressing that the striker was signed specifically to strengthen their attack and score goals.
According to Er, there was significant interest in Iheanacho, while Bursaspor’s stature also played an important role in convincing the Nigerian international to join the club.
The former Leicester City and Celtic forward has made an outstanding start to his time in Turkey, recording 11 goals and two assists across eight consecutive matches for Bursaspor.
His performances have quickly established him as a key figure in the club’s attack, with Er expressing hope that the striker will continue his scoring streak in the team’s next fixture.
The Bursaspor manager also praised the team’s improving spirit and productivity, noting that players tend to perform better when they are happy and united. He emphasised that the club’s progress was the result of collective effort rather than individual performances alone.
Bursaspor signed Iheanacho as a free agent in the summer of 2026 after negotiations with Scottish club Celtic reportedly broke down in July. During the previous season, the Nigerian forward scored nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions and helped Celtic secure a domestic double.
Iheanacho has also maintained his scoring form at international level, finding the net in Nigeria’s 3-3 friendly draw against Russia on October 6, 2026.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the striker’s impressive run in Turkey has strengthened expectations surrounding his role at Bursaspor, with the club hoping he can sustain his form and continue delivering goals as the season progresses.
