Security Boost In Kano As Army Strengthens Military Presence With New Combat Units
The Nigerian Army has deployed a new battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen security, address emerging threats and improve its operational response across the region.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 1 Division and Commander of Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, disclosed this during an operational assessment visit to the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta between October 28 and 29, 2026.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Wase said the newly established military formations would require dedication, resilience and collective commitment to achieve their operational objectives and effectively carry out their assigned responsibilities.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the GOC assured personnel that the division was collaborating with the Kano State Government to ensure the units attained full operational capability.
Wase also pledged to prioritise the welfare of military personnel and provide the necessary logistical support to enable the formations to become fully operational. He stressed that adequate resources and sustained commitment would be essential to ensuring the units performed their duties effectively.
During the visit, the GOC was accompanied by the Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh. The military delegation also held engagements with local government officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Army and the host communities.
Wase urged residents of the two communities to cooperate with the military and support the newly deployed formations. He emphasised that collaboration between security personnel and local residents was crucial to maintaining peace, preventing security threats and creating a safer environment.
The Army explained that the deployment was part of its broader expansion and restructuring efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and improving the military’s ability to respond promptly to emerging challenges.
The assessment visit also provided an opportunity for the GOC to evaluate the operational readiness of the new formations and identify areas where additional resources or support might be required before they fully assume their responsibilities.
