Dickson Backs Young NDC Campaign DG, Says Appointment Is Opportunity For Youth Leadership
The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has reaffirmed his support for Ibrahim Abdulkarim, the Director-General of the party’s National Campaign Council, describing his appointment as part of efforts to create leadership opportunities for young Nigerians.
Dickson explained that Abdulkarim’s selection was deliberate, despite his relative youth and lack of previous experience holding political office in Nigeria. According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the decision reflects the party’s commitment to giving young people the opportunity to learn, serve, demonstrate their abilities and develop into future leaders.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Dickson made the remarks in a statement shared on Thursday, where he also directed all NDC state chairmen and party officials to provide Abdulkarim and other members of the National Campaign Council with maximum support.
He described the NDC as a party committed to the interests of youths, women and ordinary Nigerians, adding that the party was working to build a broad coalition capable of challenging oppression and promoting a better future for the country.
Dickson further called on party members, stakeholders, support groups and non-governmental organisations to give all NDC candidates the necessary backing as preparations for elections intensify. He said such support should cover grassroots mobilisation, campaign activities, canvassing for votes and efforts to protect votes cast by Nigerians.
The NDC leader also urged young people and women to take an active role in the party’s development and participate fully in its mission, stressing that they should not remain on the sidelines but should help shape the party’s direction and leadership.
Dickson disclosed that the party had so far inaugurated only the top leadership of its National Campaign Council, while plans were underway to appoint additional members to various committees, directorates and coordinating teams.
He explained that the process of compiling these structures at the state, local government and ward levels was ongoing to ensure wider participation among party members, leaders and stakeholders in grassroots mobilisation and campaign preparations.
The former governor said the party recognised the interest expressed by members seeking positions within the campaign council, adding that further appointments would provide opportunities for broader involvement in its activities.
Dickson maintained that the NDC’s objective was to build a people-driven political platform where Nigerians, particularly young people and women, could contribute meaningfully to the country’s future. He called for collective commitment among party members as the organisation continues to expand its campaign structure and mobilisation efforts.
