Lagos APC Declares War On Opposition, Vows To Defeat Peter Obi In 2027
Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State have expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will defeat opposition candidates, including Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful Peter Obi, in the 2027 presidential election.
The party leaders maintained that the APC had identified and addressed the political miscalculations responsible for Tinubu’s defeat in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election, insisting that the party was better prepared for the next contest.
They made the declaration while speaking with journalists at a political gathering organised by President Tinubu’s daughter and Nigeria’s Iyaloja General, Dr Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo.
The event was organised as part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election bid through the Iyaloja General Movement (IGM), ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at the gathering, the Lagos State Director-General of the movement, Barrister Adejumbo Omofumilewa, described the inauguration as a mini-rally in support of the president. He expressed optimism that the APC would record a stronger performance in Lagos, arguing that the factors responsible for its disappointing outing in 2023 had been addressed.
Omofumilewa attributed the previous electoral setback to the party’s failure to properly understand the political situation in the state, describing the outcome as a betrayal.
He said the circumstances that contributed to Tinubu’s defeat in Lagos had changed, claiming that party members and supporters were now united behind the president.
The APC chieftain also dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi or any other opposition candidate could pose a serious challenge to the ruling party in Lagos, expressing confidence in the APC’s political strength in the state.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Iyaloja General Movement, Dr Nasiru Ladan, disclosed that the organisation had attracted more than 2,500 support groups, with several other associations reportedly showing interest in joining.
Ladan explained that the groups had been incorporated into the movement’s organisational structure, while efforts were ongoing to establish a comprehensive database of supporters across states and local government areas.
He said the movement was building a grassroots mobilisation network extending from the state level to local governments, wards and polling units.
According to him, the organisation plans to appoint 10 facilitators in every polling unit, with each facilitator expected to mobilise 100 voters. The strategy, he said, is designed to help the movement achieve its target of securing 10 million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Also speaking, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Oyefolu Ojelabi, said the party was approaching the 2027 elections with seriousness and would not leave anything to chance.
Ojelabi noted that APC activities and support groups were expanding across different states and local government areas as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots support for the president.
He added that the party was engaging Nigerians to communicate the achievements of Tinubu’s administration and seek public support for its policies and development plans.
The APC chairman described the 2023 presidential election in Lagos as a wake-up call for the party, particularly because the APC had maintained political control of the state since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
He said the experience had reinforced the party’s determination to intensify its mobilisation and political engagement ahead of the next presidential election.
Ojelabi also commended Tinubu-Ojo for bringing Iyaloja Generals from different parts of the country together under the movement to strengthen support for the president’s re-election campaign.
In a related development, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the movement, Prince Mendy Achibong, expressed confidence in the organisation’s growing influence in the state.
Achibong pledged that Akwa Ibom would deliver more than 80 per cent of its votes to Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, claiming that the projected performance would surpass the state’s contribution during the previous election.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the APC’s latest mobilisation drive reflects the party’s determination to strengthen its grassroots network and avoid a repeat of its 2023 electoral setback in Lagos as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
