Should I Ask For A Refund? – Nigerian Man Seeks Advice After ₦2m Burial Donation
A Nigerian man has sparked reactions on social media after sharing his experience of donating ₦2 million to support a friend organising his late father’s burial, only to later discover that the money had allegedly not been used for the intended purpose.
The man, identified as @silverpennydr on X, explained that he decided to assist his friend financially after learning about plans for his father’s burial.
According to his account, he announced the donation during a conference call involving his friend and two of the friend’s brothers before transferring the sum of ₦2 million.
However, his concerns reportedly began when he later made enquiries about the burial arrangements and discovered that the money had not been disbursed by his friend.
The development left him feeling disappointed and betrayed, prompting him to consider asking for the money to be refunded.
He disclosed that his wife, however, disagreed with the idea of demanding a refund, leaving him uncertain about what decision to make.
Seeking public opinion, the man asked social media users whether he should request his money back or simply let the matter go, despite his disappointment over how the donation was allegedly handled.
His post attracted several reactions, with many commenters advising him not to pursue a refund.
One respondent, Ishola, argued that the friend might have other burial expenses to settle and advised the donor to consider his contribution as support already given to the family.
Another commenter, Empress Tee, also encouraged him to let the matter go, while Blessing Joy suggested that he should not allow the situation to disturb his peace.
Similarly, Tope advised the man to accept that he had played his part by offering financial assistance and move on.
The incident has generated discussions about trust, financial assistance and accountability when friends and family members contribute money towards burial arrangements.
