The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has launched a new security initiative, tagged Operation Laafia DanDan, as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state during the ember months.

The corps also announced the deployment of 1,200 personnel across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas to improve security operations and prevent criminal activities.

The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the development while parading 15 suspected criminals at the agency’s headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

Adeleye explained that the new security strategy would focus on intelligence-driven surveillance along major highways and within metropolitan areas. He added that Amotekun Rangers would also intensify patrols across forest reserves to prevent criminal elements from using the areas as hideouts.

According to the commander, the 15 suspects paraded were arrested over various alleged offences. They include four individuals suspected of violating anti-grazing regulations, two accused of disturbing public peace and nine others linked to kidnapping cases.

Adeleye maintained that the arrests demonstrated the corps’ determination to prevent criminal activities from taking root in Ondo State.

He further disclosed that operatives had apprehended three suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of a poultry farmer and the killing of a woman.

The commander said the victim had identified the suspects, adding that they had also reportedly confessed to their alleged involvement in the crime.

He stressed that the corps would sustain its operations to ensure the safety of residents and commuters across the state, particularly during the ember months when security agencies often intensify preventive measures.
