Illegal Mining Turns D*adly In Plateau As Pit Collapse Claims Miner’s Life

Published

A 35-year-old miner identified as Ibrahim Jabir has died following the collapse of an illegal mining pit in Asaradan village, Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, prompting troops of Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), to respond to reports of the collapse.

According to security sources, troops arrived at the scene and discovered the victim’s body, which had already been recovered by members of the local community.

The sources further disclosed that the Keystone Division in Angware was contacted to take the necessary follow-up action regarding the incident.

Jabir’s death has once again drawn attention to the dangers associated with illegal mining activities, particularly the risks posed by poorly constructed mining pits and the absence of adequate safety measures.

However, further details about the circumstances surrounding the collapse and any possible action against those responsible for the illegal mining operation were not immediately available.

The incident adds to concerns over the safety of miners operating in unregulated sites, where inadequate supervision and safety precautions can expose workers to life-threatening accidents.
