After Years Of Pink, DJ Cuppy Opens Up On Personal Growth And New Fashion Identity

Nigerian disc jockey and entertainer Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has explained why she decided to move away from her trademark pink appearance after making the colour a major part of her public identity for several years.

The entertainer, who became widely recognised for her pink hair, outfits and accessories, said her decision was inspired by personal growth and a desire to express herself beyond a single colour.

Cuppy made the revelation during an interview with GQ Poland, where she explained that although pink had been an important part of her public identity for several years, she no longer wanted to be restricted by that image.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the DJ stressed that her decision did not mean she had abandoned the values associated with pink, noting that she could still communicate the same qualities through different colours.

“I was known for the colour pink, and it was my identity for so many years, and a lot of people are asking what happened to the pink,” she said.

She explained that personal development was inevitable and that she believed people should have the freedom to evolve without being confined to a particular identity.

Cuppy described pink as a symbol of power, vibrancy, self-expression, confidence and unapologetic individuality, adding that those qualities remained part of who she was.

Reflecting on her fashion journey, the DJ said her style also represented her experience as a woman working in a male-dominated entertainment industry.

She recalled that when she began her career about 17 years ago, pink helped her express her femininity and establish her presence in an industry largely dominated by men.

However, after years of breaking barriers and creating opportunities for herself, Cuppy said she now feels confident expressing her femininity through any colour.

Her comments suggest that the change in her appearance represents a new phase of self-expression rather than a complete departure from the identity that made her popular.
