Blackout Crisis: Lagos, FCT May See Improved Electricity Supply Within 72 Hours
The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that electricity supply could begin to improve in some affected areas within the next 48 to 72 hours as efforts intensify to address the recent power outages.
Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, gave the assurance in a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, while acknowledging the difficulties the outages have caused households and businesses across four affected states, including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Tegbe attributed the disruption to several factors, including scheduled maintenance at Egbin Power Station, gas supply challenges affecting some thermal power plants and the alleged sabotage of critical transmission lines.
The minister explained that the combined challenges had reduced electricity generation and affected the capacity of the national grid to distribute power to consumers. He added that damage to important transmission lines had also disrupted alternative electricity supply routes, particularly in parts of Lagos.
Tegbe further disclosed that grid operators had introduced load shedding in some locations as a temporary measure to manage the limited electricity available.
He said his team was working to restore the affected generating units in phases, with the first units expected to return to operation within the next 48 to 72 hours.
“I am aware of the strain that the current outages have placed on households and businesses in four affected states, including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory,” the minister stated.
He added that the government was collaborating with electricity operators to improve gas supply to thermal power plants and accelerate repairs to damaged power infrastructure.
Tegbe thanked residents and business owners affected by the disruption for their patience, assuring them that further updates would be provided as efforts to restore electricity continued.
